Reader’s Question:

It’s time to get my own auto insurance policy after being under my parents’ policy here in Louisville, Kentucky for quite a while. I’m confused as to which insurance coverage should I get, what advice can you give me?

It’s understandable that you easily get confused on which coverage to purchase for your own car insurance policy in Louisville, Kentucky. Of course, you’d like to have cheap insurance rates but at the same time, have sufficient protection. If you get into an accident and it is found out that you are at fault, the other party’s medical bills will be your obligation which is the coverage for bodily injury liability. In case you hit something like a light post, the property damage liability would help you pay for the damage.

You may also get an uninsured motorist insurance that would pay for any injury that you receive in a crash with drivers that do not have any liability insurance. But if the driver doesn’t have adequate insurance, underinsured motorist coverage would take care of the damage on your car. For replacement and repair of your vehicle after a crash, collision coverage would pay for it. For theft and even damages caused by natural disasters, comprehensive insurance would give you coverage for that. Lastly, you may opt not to get insurance for rental or towing services. The annual payments are not that big but you may be able to save it should you not include it in your policy.
